Who Are We?

Postby tubbsy24 » Fri Mar 25, 2011 7:55 am

We did this on the old forum and some find it handy especially newbies, so here we go again..
Hi, I'm Carol, 73, retired 13 years after 45 years full-time work. Widowed for over 17 years I have one son, 51 who also lives in Melbourne but the rest of my family are in the U.K. I like to get back to the UK as often as I can to visit the family. I'm a big people person so not into animals etc. I've been XSing for a little over 14 years. Mostly I do large projects. I read at least 2 books a week. Love watching TV - especially UK programmes. I'm a member of the UK Zipper Club (all members have had open-heart surgery), heaps of medications keep me going. I also have recently been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteo Arthritis and Osteopenia. Despite this, or maybe because of it, I am always 'up'. I really enjoy this forum and visit twice a day. I'm one of the 'oldies' here in both senses.

Hello, I am Delene and am a week or so away from turning 51 years. I have a married son of 26 and a daughter of 27 who is getting married in November. I have been married for 30 years. I am a legal secretary and have been one for past 31 years. I have lived my whole life here in a small town (was away for about 18 months just after I got married). I share my home with 3 doggies (2 small and 1 large). I have been cross stitching for 20 years this year. I like designs by Dimensions, Thomas Kinkade, Stoney Creek and Paula Vaughan. These are my favourites in order. I tend to prefer larger designs although every now and then I do stitch a couple of smaller ones as well. I enjoy other crafts as well, mainly cardmaking at the moment. I like reading, I enjoy wattching tv and listening to music and doing crossword puzzles. I love anything and everything to do with christmas.
I love chatting here on the forum and while only been a member for about 5 years, I am an active member. The best place to be is here. I dont do facebook or twitter.

Hi,I am Rita :) 54 years old, married with 4 stepsons.I am unable to work due to being disabled with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia amongst other things. My husband is my full time carer.I have only been Cross Stitching for about 2 to 3 years.I caught the bug from my MIL who had stitched all her life, never thought I would have the patience.I used to do cardmaking but gave it up as I found it too difficult with my disabilities, but with Cross Stitching I can sit back on the sofa comfortable.I love Cross stitching and mostly like to do conversions from photos of my animals,a Horse who sadly I can no longer ride or care for so she is being looked after by someone else,2 Dogs, both cross Jack Russells,4 cats and tropical fish. :)
I am hoping my hands stand up to all the stitching and enable me to enjoy my hobby for many more years to come.I live in Essex, but my dream is to move to the Isle of Wight as it is beautiful there. :)
Think that's about it.
Rita xx :)

I've been called Aisles off and on since I was 5years old real name Eileen. I've been stitching since I was about 9 years old started with crewel embroidery, and then added woolwork, cross stitch, hardanger, blackwork, cutout work and a wee bit of ribbon embriodery. I also knit and crochet.

I moved to leafy surrey 10years ago. Married for almost 18years with no children. I've always had at least one dog. We'd love to have a couple of hens but hubbie is afraid one of the local fox's might eat them and we'd be far too upset.

I'm a keen gardener growing all maner of fruit and veg in my rather large garden.

I'm a buisness woman and I also teach Arts & Crafts and run a Mother N Toddler Group.

When I was younger I sang and played in an all girl band. I still play and sing every sunday at church

I'm an ex squash and Badminton coach and was a keen Body Builder untill 11 years ago when my knee got too bad due to a nastie accident.

I'm a mad about fast lound modified cars and run a car forum for ladies with japanese performance cars. I'm often seen racing mine on the Drag Strip at Santa Pod. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and know my way around an engine bay. One day I'd love to build my own kit car to go track racing before I get 'too old.'

I'm Wendy, i'm 28 years old and have a 8 year old son, we live with my partner in West Sussex, I have been cross stitching on and off since the age of 11 with my first project being at school designing and stitching a school badge. I have stitched a few pieces over the years and regret to say that some remain UFOs. Some finished pieces include a Pic of Sir Paul McCartney, a pic of Daniel O'Donnel, a London Underground Map, various birth samplers, Mr Men numbers sampler, a couple of AOY designs.

I prefer stitching projects that have a lot going on and lots of colours as I get particularly bored if a project has too many similar colours in it. I am currently working on Sandy Littlejohn's The age of steam and am really enjoying it so far

Other than stitching I am slowly getting my gardening done, i love cooking, taking my son to street dance lessons, performances and competitions,

It's a bit like Cross Stitchers Anonymous in here LOL

I am Ingrid, I am 28 but will be 29 in May. I live on my own with my son, Dylan, who is five. However, I am in a relationship, and we hope to be living together later on this year. I have 2 cats, and some fish in a pond in the garden. I am a 'wannabe' writer, and I am currently editing my first novel whilst also learning how to sell articles. I have been cross stitching on and off all my life, but only took it more seriously 6/7 years ago. Despite being unemployed, I am enjoying the time to stitch and write (once chores and job search are done of course!)

This is all. :P

I'm Sandz & I'm 26. I've been stitching since my Nan & Mum taught me aged 8. It's been a bit hit & miss all those years though. I'd say honestly I've been stitching enthusiastically since I was 19 or 20. I like to knit & crochet as well, with the occasional card being made too. I love large, bright & colourful designs - no favourite designer or subject matter, just what catches my eye really. At the moment I'm working on 2 HAED designs, 1 called Moon Glow (Selina Fenech) & 1 called QS Coral Addiction :)

I live at home with Mum & Dad currently. I did move out on my own for a couple of years but now I'm back due to things not really working out :( I'm not in a relationship but things with my 'ex' are complicated to say the least (won't go into that really!) I've only been home since December, so not that long. I've got a tropical fish tank with 7 fish in it - 1 fighting fish called Grumpy (I'll post a picture later), 1 adult Swordtail called Pearl & 5 baby Swords (at last count) I love looking after them. Dad's got a pond outside full of goldfish & koi. I'd like a fluffy pet (like a cat or dog) but that may have to wait until I move out again :)

I bounce from job to job. Don't really know what I want to do with my life. Just got a seasonal role at our local theme park for the summer though :) then I'll plan my next adventure after that :D I've been a member of the forum for 5 or 6 years on & off...every now & again I'll disappear for a while. I hope to be more active here though.

I am Kay, 53. I live in Sheffield with my husband Roger and son, George,14. I have a daughter Frances,22, who is studying Psychology at Exeter University. I was a Librarian for 30years, a job I loved as it combines my passion for books with my love of people. I gave it up2 years ago in order to do some studying, and have more time for other interests. I have 2 dogs, a naughty Jack Russell and a well behaved Golden Retriever, and we all go away regularly together in our tiny Eriba caravan, something of a squash! I love all animals and birds, nature and gardening. I am interested in Art, History, Philosophy.....I read crime novels, do crosswords, eat too much chocolate, and love to cook. Hence I am engaged in a constant battle with being fat-fat currently winning.
I found cross stitch 22 years ago, when I still thought Aida was an opera, and have loved it ever since, although I lose the bug from time to time. I love large colourful realistic designs, and stitch mostly on linen. I have recently discovered the joy of card making through joining a stitched birthday exchange on this forum. As well as cross stitch I like needlepoint, Hardanger, and other counted stitch work.
Since joining the Forum last year, I have become addicted to chatting, and feel thrilled to be talking to lovely people all over the world who share my love of stitching, and who always have something to say.
My best quality is my sense of humour, my worst is impatience. I look forward to getting to know everyone better, and sharing the highs and lows with you all.

I'm Ana Luisa, am 54 years young, :D , been married for 27 years now, and have one daughter, Ana Renée, 26. She lives at home, along with our, now, 1 cat and 2 dogs, one we are fostering at the moment. I live in Puebla, Mexico, which is southeast of Mexico City. I've always been interested in the handcrafts, especially the intricate, lacy and challenging type. I learned to crochet when I was a teenager in school, learned a few basic embroidery stitches, but I've taught myself everything else I wanted to learn, except for one course on Tin Embossing a few years ago. I also know how to knit, although I don't do it, I'm too slow!, draw, watercolour, pastel and oil painting (I'm no Monet!), of which I no longer do since I lost all motivation. I've dabbled in other crafts, but crochet and cross stitching have remained my favourites. I try to be as eco-friendly as possible, love animals, cooking, baking, reading, travel, watching TV.
I learned english during the years we lived in the USA, I was 2 when we went to live there. I'm the third eldest of 7. ;)

I am elena, 45, curious, good-humored (well, most of the times), work as a researcher and, happily enough, I like it! Love reading, watching a good movie and get thrilled by all live performances, especially concert or ballets. Like taking long walks, traveling, tending my miniature garden, and cooking favorite dishes. I try to be green as much as I can, though not always easy in a big city.
I live in rome with a wonderful (and extremely patient...) man who shares my love for simple things and a good laugh.
Discovered cross-stiching 5 or 6 years ago, when a colleague gave me some fabric, threads and a stitching magazine as a christmas present. Have been hooked ever since. Prefer small projects and especially designs with a primitive or historical idea about them. Love to stitch on linen and evenweave, and whenever I can, prefer linen and silk threads. I also crochet, which I learnt from my grandma, while I am no good at sewing, which makes all my attempts at a lovely finish a huge effort... But I don't mind mistakes!

Wow what a fascinating thread. I honestly did not know most of these little "normal" facts about you all - like your ages, hobbies etc so its nice to read it :)

I am Danielle, 25 years old and have only been a member of this forum for about 5 weeks now although it feels much longer as I've been made so welcome I feel so at home here.

I learned cross stitching at age 8 and completed a few kits in a few years. I stopped during my teenage years as I got more interested in pop music, going to concerts and horses. But I took stitching up properly again when I was about 18 and never looked back - however I do have a few UFO's lying around

My other hobbies include horse riding, reading, latch hooking, keeping fit, playing sports, cycling, going for walks and many other things, I like to keep busy. I also like to come online to browse and chat with my forum friends :)

I love animals and working with them, I also like to work with disabled people and I do volunteer work with the disabled and horses at the disabled riding school.

My favourite kits to stitch are Dimensions, Needle Treasures and DMC. I like to do large kits but also enjoy little kits as I travel. I have a small suitcase full of cross stitch kits ready to start so will not be running short any time soon!

I am Joyce 68 I have been married to Peter 49 years in September I have two daughters and one son nine grandchildren and one great grandson.I live in Appleby in Cumbria some of you may have heard about the big Gypsy fair which is held here every year.I started cross stitching about 20 plus years ago after watching my youngest daughter doing it my fingers itched to have a go and as the saying goes the rest is history.I have a bad back which I have had a long time now so it limits me as to what I can do.I used to love cooking but cant stand very long these days to do much I also liked to garden but cant do that either but OH says he dreads it when I come out with an idea as he knows it means work for him.I like reading historical novels ,doing cross words my computer .we have six cats one we got from a rescue centre and the others are all strays that have adopted us.Cross Stitching has been a god send for me as it helps to take my mind of the constant pain.
