how to make a padded hanging

Stitch this whimsical tooth fairy chart from the fairy-themed Design Library in issue 258 of The World of Cross Stitching, then follow the instructions below to make your very own padded hanging!

1 Trim your stitched piece so that it measures 8.5x8.5cm (3¼x3¼in) and then hem to 1 cm (½in).

2 Create the front and back panels by cutting out two pieces of backing fabric, both measuring 14x14cm (5½x5½in).

3 Pin your stitched piece to the centre of your front panel, so that the right side of the fabric is facing the back of your stitching. Machine- or hand-stitch in place along three edges. Leave the top edge unstitched, as this will create your pocket.

4 Cut a length of cord to 20cm (8in), and pin it to the top two corners of your front panel of fabric. Make sure the ends of the cord are overhanging the top edge and the loop is facing down.

5 Place your front and back panels together, right sides together, so that your cord is sandwiched in between them. Sew a 1cm (½in) seam around all four edges, leaving a 4cm (1½in) gap for turning.

6 Turn through, press and stuff with wadding. Then slip stitch the gap closed to finish.
