Stitch this spooky tree silhouette chart from the Halloween-themed Design Library in issue 259 (October 2017) of The World of Cross Stitching, then follow the instructions below to make your very own padded hanging!

Trim your stitched piece, leaving a border measuring 1 cm (¼in). Using a pair of sharp fabric scissors, cut a piece of backing fabric to the same size as your stitching.

Next, cut a piece of ribbon to the required length and tack it as a loop onto the right side of your stitched piece, centrally on the top edge.

Place your stitched piece and backing fabric together, right sides facing, with the ribbon sandwiched in between.  Pin, and hand- or machine-stitch all the way around, but remembering to leave a small gap to turn through.

Turn through, and stuff the hanging with wadding for a firm finish. Slip-stitch the gap closed to complete and get set to spook!
