| KNOW-HOW |
| |
How can I make my knots look bigger? Try using a thicker thread or more strands together in the needle to make the knot.
How do I stop my French knots ending up on the back of the fabric? You've probably taken the needle back through the same hole it came through and pulled the knot with it. Avoid the holes in the aida and push the needle back down one or two threads to the side.
I'm never happy with my French knots. Is there an alternative? Yes, try making a colonial knot (see below).
1. Bring the needle up through the fabric where you want the knot to be.

|
2. Wind the thread around the needle in roughly a figure of eight as shown. Practice on a spare piece of fabric until you've got it.
|
3. Now push the needle back into the fabric close to where the thread emerged, keeping the thread taut. Draw the thread through carefully.
