KNOW-HOW

Fitting Your Stitching Into a Shaped Frame
Design and frame from DMC Classic Collection 4 magazine

There are lots of lovely shaped frames around that are just perfect for Christmas stitching. Follow our step by step instructions to create your own gorgeous decorations.

Shaped frames are available from needlecraft stores around the country. For details of the star shaped frame used in this feature, contact Framecraft on 0121 212 0551.

HOW TO ... frame your design

When you have finished stitching your design, back the reverse side with a piece of iron-on interfacing to prevent the fabric from fraying.

1. Push out the cardboard insert inside the frame and place the frame centrally over your stitching. Move the frame around until you are happy with the positioning, and then, holding the frame firmly, draw around the outside edge of the frame.
2. Place the cardboard insert inside the line you have drawn and draw round this too. Cut out carefully around the inside line using sharp dressmaking scissors.
3. Place the stitched design over the cardboard template and firmly push the frame on top. You may need to trim a little more off the edges of the fabric to make it sit flat within the frame. To give your decorations a professional finish on the back, attach self-adhesive felt to the back of the cardboard insert.
