KNOW-HOW

Mounting a Design in a Keyring
Keyrings are an excellent way to display your handiwork. You can buy plastic key fobs from needlework shops for under £1 that are ideal for displaying small cross stitch designs.

Follow these easy steps for mounting your stitching centrally in a keyring. You can use the same technique to mount your stitching in other items such as coasters or trinket pots.

1. Choose a design that will be no larger than the paper template inside the keyring when stitched.

2. Back your stitched design with lightweight iron-on interfacing to secure the stitches and prevent the fabric from fraying. Set your iron on medium for this.

3. Mark the centre of your paper template with a pencil dot and the centre of your stitching with a pin.

4. Lay your stitching on top of the template and push the pin through the centre of the fabric into the centre of the paper. Turn them over, and with the pin still in place, draw round the template in pencil on the back of the fabric.

5. Now carefully cut out round the pencil line and put your design in the open keyring. You may need to trim it further to fit the aperture.

6. Check you are happy with the way the design looks in the keyring, then snap the two halves together. But, remember, you cannot open it again to adjust the design, so take your time over this stage.
