1. Always buy enough material so that you've got a decent margin around your stitched piece for framing.
2. Snip off any trailing ends of thread so they don't show up on your stitching after it's in its frame.
3. Use a colour for the frame that appears in the design so that it enhances it.
4. A coloured mount can make a design look extra special - visit your framers or art shop to see the wide range of shades available.
5. Try signing your work to give it your own identity. Add a signature or your initials using backstitch in a coordinating shade of thread.
6. Always use acid free mount board for framing and never use glue. Instead use linen tape, or lace the work on the back using crochet cotton.
7. If you are taking your work to a professional framer, ask to see other examples of embroidery they have framed.
8. Buy fun, funky frames from discount stores and cover them with paint fabric, fur, buttons, or whatever you like, to make them really original.
9. If you are using glass in your frame, make sure it doesn't come into contact with the stitching by using spacers, or your stitching may go mouldy.
10. Be careful where you hang your framed stitching. Heirloom projects should be kept away from heat, damp and direct sunlight.
