| KNOW-HOW |

1. Be realistic about the time you have available. If you want to stitch an heirloom sampler, then you'll need to start well in advance; but a small piece of work, ready and framed in time for the big day is better than a huge, half finished project still in the back of your stitching cupboard.
2. If you need to stitch a design in a hurry, then choose fabric that you are used to and a design you can cope with.
3. Don't be TOO ambitious - if you have never worked with metallics, beads, fractional stitches and French knots, then don't embark on a complicated project that uses all of them!
4. If you are stitching lots of items such as invitations or place name cards, then choose a simple design with only a few colours so that each item doesn't take long to complete.
5. Try and find out the colour scheme of the wedding, so that you can choose a design that uses the same shades of thread.
6. A hand-stitched band for the wedding cake will make it the centrepiece of the table. Aida bands are available trimmed with a wide range of pretty colours including gold and silver.
7. Ready-made products such as conftetti bags, trinket pots and ring cushions are great for quick-to-stitch wedding ideas.
8. Give your project a luxury feel by stitching on damask aida - this has a lovely luxurious sheen which is perfect for weddings.
9. Add an extra dimension to your design with the use of beads and charms. Visit your local retailer to see the gorgeous range of wedding charms that are available.
10. If you ARE stitching a large design and realise you aren't going to get it finished for the wedding, then buy a small wedding present instead, and give the finished piece of stitching to the couple on their first anniversary - this gives you a whole extra year to complete it!
