Working cross stitch on canvas is just as easy as doing it on aida or evenweave fabric, and canvas is the ideal material to use when the entire area is covered by stitching.
Follow our step by step diagrams to find out just how easy it is to stitch on a different type of fabric.
Step 1 Begin by tying a knot in the thread and stitching through the canvas 2-3 cm from where you want to start, leaving the knot on the top surface.
Step 2 Work a row of half cross stitches from left to right and then go back across the stitches, completing cross stitches as you go.
Step 3
Once you have worked stitches across the thread ends on the reverse side, snip off the knot still sitting on the surface of the canvas
Step 4 To end the thread, take the thread through to the reverse side and slide the needle under 5-6 previous stitches and trim the end.
